Electronic Compasses
ONWA electronic compasses use digital sensors to continuously and automatically determine a vessel's heading. They provide stable and accurate heading information that can be directly displayed on chart plotters, radars, and other navigation systems.
Advantages over a magnetic compass:
- Higher accuracy through digital heading determination and automatic compensation for disturbances.
- Direct integration with navigation equipment such as plotters, radar, and autopilots.
- Improved readability thanks to a digital display of the heading.
- Less sensitive to vessel movements, such as rolling and pitching.
- Automatic calibration and simpler maintenance.
- Possibility of heading exchange via NMEA networks on board.
ONWA supplies the KA-GC9A (recreational); the KA-SC20 (demanding recreational and semi-professional) and the KA-SC90 (professional/commercial shipping). In addition, there is a separate display, the KEC-70G, which also supports electronic compasses (NMEA0183) from other suppliers.
Although a magnetic compass always remains a reliable backup because it does not require power, an ONWA electronic compass offers more ease of use, precision, and integration possibilities for modern navigation.
