Radar
A radar on board increases the safety of a sailboat or pleasure craft by making ships, buoys, coastlines, and obstacles visible, even when visibility is poor due to fog, rain, or darkness. Where the human eye falls short, radar provides timely information to prevent collisions and better anticipate the surroundings.
In addition, radar provides a continuous 360-degree overview around the vessel. In combination with a chartplotter, the radar image can often be overlaid on the electronic chart, which helps in identifying objects and confirming one's own position. This is especially valuable when navigating at night, approaching ports, and in busy areas.
A yacht radar has clear and far-reaching limitations on Dutch inland waterways, mainly stemming from the Inland Navigation Police Regulations (BPR). In the Netherlands, a yacht radar on inland waterways is therefore primarily a limited aid, while it comes into its own on the sea and spacious open waters.
ONWA supplies two CE-certified radome yacht radars. These can be connected to the chartplotters of the KM Series and the K-Astral Series.
